Pricing

Dear visitor. I want my pricing to be very transparent for you as a buyer or potential buyer. Wether you buy because of love for the specific piece, for your collection or as an investment. I want you to know how I’ve come to the price of any of my pieces I’m selling.

Coming to my current very highly logic based approach, has been a venture. I think it’s a symbol of me maturing as an artist. A shift in my mentality from seeing myself as the soul benefiter from my art, to finally realizing that my creations are not only worthy in my own eyes but a part of me that has value to others. And in pride of this realization I no longer have the same attachment to my art. I take enormous pleasure in creating and experiencing the final result of every piece, but I no longer fear letting go of a piece because I derive value from knowing a piece has been embraced by a buyer. The shift means I have now moved from an attachment based pricing to a price mainly based on size and rarity of my art.

The following multipliers could change in the future, but most likely it’s my cm2 price that will increase.

Price = Size x Rarity + 150% of Material cost.

Size

My current base price is currently set to 0.027€ per cm2. Actually based in 0.2 Danish Kroner per cm2. So the € euro value can vary.

Examples of sizes and the resulting base prices
A4 ( 8.3 x 11.7 inches ) 16.74€
A3 ( 11.7 x 16.5 inches ) 33.48€
A2 ( 16.5 x 23.4 inches ) 66.95€

Rarity

Depending on the rarity I assign a percentage value which acts as the multiplier for the base price.

800% Original handmade
This is a one of a kind piece of art. The piece has been created by actual strokes of a real pen, pencil, brush or something similar. The tool has been controlled by my hand. This could be a mixed media piece, which could partly consist of digital printouts used as the canvas or cutouts from other sources glued to the piece. Unique, one of a kind and handmade being the keywords here. Signed by me.

400% Unique Print
This is a one of a kind print. Usually a digitally created piece, but can be the single replication of an original handmade piece. Signed and numbered 1/1 by me. Comes with certificate of authenticity.

240% Limited edition of 15
Limited edition print of 15 pieces. A digitally created piece or a replication of an original handmade piece. Signed and numbered by me. Comes with certificate of authenticity.

220% Limited edition of 30
Limited edition print of 30 pieces. A digitally created piece or a replication of an original handmade piece. Signed and numbered by me. Comes with certificate of authenticity.

200% Limited edition of 50
Limited edition print of 50 pieces. A digitally created piece or a replication of an original handmade piece. Signed and numbered by me. Comes with certificate of authenticity.

100% Limited edition of 100
Limited edition print of 100 pieces. A digitally created piece or a replication of an original handmade piece. Signed and numbered by me. Comes with certificate of authenticity.

80% Open edition
Any piece with no limit to its edition. Usually some early pieces from before entering the limited edition arena, or small size supplement editions to the original, unique and limited edition releases. Often postcards or a5 prints of larger pieces. Some originals are supplemented with open edition replicas of the same size. Any Unique prints, Limited edition prints or originals sold 2018 or after will have details about any open edition prints available of the same artwork in the certificate of authenticity.

Material cost and why I ask 150%

Every artwork, wether handmade or not has a cost of creation. Prints have high costs of ink and paper, originals have the costs of whatever materials used to create the pieces.

When printing, the process to the final product has waste of ink and paper as I go through a process of printing tests prints. Picking the right paper takes time, and restocking materials takes time. If I sell a piece of art framed, I’d have spent time finding the frame and framing the artwork besides paying the costs of the frame. This is why I add a little profit margin on the material cost.

Example pricing

So let’s say I’m releasing an a2 digital piece of art as a limited edition of 50 pieces. Printed on paper costing 10 € per sheet of paper, and using ink worth 2 €

The calculation would look like this:
A2 ( 16.5 x 23.4 inches ) 66.95€
Limited editions 50 (200%) x 2
Material cost x 150% + (10€+2€) x 1.5
66.95 x 2 + (10+2) x 1.5 = 151.9€

Trust in me and the certificate of authenticity

All unique or limited prints come with a certificate of authenticity to prove its authenticity also describing it’s rarity in detail. The certificate is a promise of scarcity and a document symbolizing the trust you can put in my word. The certificate will describe if the motive can or will be used for other purposes like smaller printouts or other editions or if test-prints or artist proofs exist besides the unique or limited print. If no such information is added, I will not replicate the motive outside the digital universe.
